Suffolk AGM - 18th May
The 2008 AGM of the Suffolk Contract Bridge Association will be held on Sunday 18th May 2008, 3:00pm at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club.
The EBU Pay-to-Play Proposal
The EBU's plan to revitalise bridge in England has, as its first step, a fundamental change to the way the EBU itself is funded. It seeks to involve more players in the organisation by moving from subscriptions to where everyone pays a small fee each time they play duplicate bridge. The SCBA has prepared a statement summarising its position on the EBU Pay-to-Play (P2P) proposal.
More information, including the EBU document, census data from clubs and the activities of the SCBA P2P Work Group can be found on the website.
Table Talk
Table Talk was distributed at the start of last month - If you don't have your copy, get in touch with the editor .
Congratulations to John Stacey and Doc Lacey whose correct solutions to Julian Lang's Double Dummy Problem were first out of the hat - they each win £5.00. Whether you entered or not, you can check your answer against Julian's solution - the problem appears first for those who were intending 'to go back to it later'.
Bridge in the Cupboard
"Where does he get the names from?", a question I posed last month - this time it's easy. Mike Chanter celebrates the legendary Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan with the next instalment: Srinivasa, the nine of spades.

Suffolk v Essex
Again! Only a few weeks after the final match of last season, Suffolk again took on Essex in the first of the 2008-2009 campaign, this time at home. Essex were after 'A' team revenge and took it. The other teams were unable to improve and again slumped to defeat: Suffolk 'A' Team lost 7-13 VPs (-16 IMPs), 'B' Team lost 6-14 VPs (-27 IMPs) and the 'C' Team lost 3-17 VPs (-48 IMPs).
