The Felixstowe Congress was much enjoyed in October; there is a gallery of photographs taken at the event. The full results are below.

Whilst numbers were substantially up on recent years the committee is keen to listen and make further improvements. is collecting responses.

World Mind Sports Games Beijing

The games produced a splendid set of results for the English teams.

The Women won the world championship, the Open team were silver medallists behind a reformed and resurgent Italy. The Under-21s were also second (to France). David Price's Seniors' team reached the knock-out but were drawn against eventual winners Japan. The games website is now an archive of the full results and a mass of bridge material including bulletins to download.

Forthcoming Events

Novice Pairs

Sunday 9th November 2008, 2:00pm at Stoke by Nayland. This event is mainly for relative novices to duplicate bridge and we welcome newcomers, rubber bridge devotees and students of bridge classes. Only simple bidding systems are allowed. Competitors need not be members of the SCBA.

There will be two short sessions with a break for tea, included in the £10.00 per player cost. Entries and inquiries to .

Suffolk Knock-out Teams

Sunday 7th December 2008, 2:00pm at Stoke by Nayland. A knock-out competition for teams of four played in four rounds, the first two of which are played at the venue above. Round one divides the field into two, round two for the top half is to qualify four teams for the semi-finals to be played by arrangement. For the second half of the field, round two is an all-play-all plate competition.

Green-Points are available for placed teams in both events. EBU level four conventions are permitted and teams of up to six are allowed. Players need not be members of SCBA to play in the venue event but must be members to play in the knock-out stages. Entries (£10.00 per player) and questions to SCBA tournament secretary .

Suffolk Simultaneous

Week beginning Monday 24th November 2008; Participating Clubs. Played on a regular club evening - individual club notice-boards and websites will have details.

Bridge Great Britain Autumn Simultaneous

Congratulations to Norma & Paddy Shannahan of Bury St. Edmunds Bridge Club for their 4th overall position with 70.40%.

Other good places were achieved by Peter Gemmell & Peter Sutcliffe of Ipswich & Kesgrave who were 12th with 68.02% and Debby Sutcliffe & Chris Chambers (also I&KBC), 46th with 63.87%. 2168 pairs took part.

Suffolk v Cambridge University

Suffolk recorded victories in all three matches against a university team that seemed stronger than in past years. The 'A' won 12-8 VPs (+10 IMPs), the 'B' team 16-4 (+43) and the 'C' team 14-6 (+24). Team details and butlers are on the Suffolk website.
