Early in July you should receive your copy of the competitions brochure.

These are individually addressed to members and the default is one per address - if you would like an unshared copy, then get in touch with the membership secretary but be quick!

Winter League

There are many attractions in the brochure but one of the most fun and the best introduction to teams bridge is the Winter League. Lower divisions are organised to minimise travelling and matches are played by arrangement in homes at roughly one a month over the winter starting in October. The winners of the topmost division earn the right to represent Suffolk in the Tollemache Qualifier.

Coming to a club near you…

David Price and Richard Evans are making it their mission in August to visit (and play at) all Suffolk Bridge Clubs with the aim of (a) David seeing if there is any hidden talent for the county squad and (b) Richard getting clubs to contribute to Table Talk so, clubs, give them a big welcome when they arrive.

Forthcoming Events

Married Pairs

Tuesday 7th July 2009, 7:15pm at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club. A one session pairs event for, naturally, married pairs only, entry for which is £6.00 per person. Entries to SCBA tournament secretary .

Seniors Pairs

Wednesday 22nd July 2009, 7:15pm at Clare Bridge Club. A one session pairs event, entry for which is £5.00 per person. A senior is any player is over 55 years of age on the day. There will also be a Veterans' Prize to the highest pair (not the winners) where both players are over 70 years of age. Entries to SCBA tournament secretary .

Spring Bank Holiday

'B' Flight Swiss Winners

Well done Birte Ditchburn, Peter Carlisle, Rosemarie Mascall, Norman Denny who captured the 'B' Flight Swiss trophy at the EBU Spring Bank Holiday Congress in Bournemouth. More details on the EBU website.

In the Championship Pairs, Graham Beeton & Sue Flin narrowly missed the cut for the final and came in 18th in the large Swiss (104 pairs).

(The congress was 23 to 25-May, details not available when June newsletter went out.)

Corwen Trophy

Those placed highly in the Suffolk Championship Pairs represented the county at the Corwen Trophy in early June. Julian Lang & David Morran were 92nd and Graham Beeton & Sue Flin were 104th; 113 pairs took part.

Pachabo Cup

The winners of the knock-out teams represented Suffolk in the Pachabo Cup a week later and the county registered its highest finish for several years. Peter Gemmell & Peter Sutcliffe, Jim Gobert & Chris Chambers were 4th and somewhat unlucky in the final round having contested the lead since the early stages.
