Suffolk Committee
After many years on the Suffolk committee Joan Mayhew has stepped down. Members will know her from her diligence in ensuring the Championship Pairs remains an inclusive event, tirelessly recruiting the players through each year's stages. The committee thanks her very much for her service. Joan celebrated by winning the AGM pairs – details below.
Replacing Joan on the committee, and taking over as treasurer from Eric Newman, is Nick Farr. You can see the full composition with contact details on the website committee page.

Forthcoming Events
Suffolk Married Pairs
Tuesday 6th July 2010, 7:15pm at Stowmarket. A one session pairs event for partners married to each other. The cost is is £6.00 per person, entries and enquiries to Competitions Secretary, (01379 870291).
Club Director Training Courses
Norfolk are running Club Director Courses at Wymondham:
- Book rulings and basic essentials — 4-September
- Judgement rulings — 2nd October
- Assessment — 16th October
Costs are £40, £40 and £45 respectively. All bookings should be made to the EBU. Part of the rationale of the booking directly is because there is a discount for multiple attendees: the following is an extract from the EBU web-page, http://www.ebu.co.uk/lawsandethics/td-training/.
Under the Universal Membership scheme affiliated clubs are invited to send a second club member to a TD course FREE OF CHARGE where the club sends a full paying member to any of the club TD courses.

BGB Spring Pairs Tuesday
Carl Ib & Sue Cook (Aldeburgh) were 4th with 69.62%

Norma Shannahan & Allyn Bignell (Stowmarket) were 11th with 67.82%

Allyn Bignell & Paul Croxson (Bury) were 13th with 66.28%

Suffolk v Bedfordshire
The 2010-11 Eastern Counties League season started with a win for the Suffolk 'A' team . The first team lost each of the first three sets but produced a storming last quarter to turn a 24 IMP deficit into a 40 point win. However both the other teams lost.
The 'A' team won 16-4 VPs (+40 IMPs) but the 'B' and 'C' teams went down 5-15 (-34 IMPs) and 3-17 (-52 IMPs) respectively. See the match page for board-by-board review.
Corwen Trophy
Eric Newman and Mike Sherer were best placed of the three pairs representing Suffolk at the Corwen Trophy qualifying from our county Pairs.
