Forthcoming Events
New Members' Invitational
Sunday 19th June 2011, 2:00pm at Lavenham.
This event, specifically for members created after April 2010 will be of 32 boards at a relaxed pace in one of the county's best venues – and aims to give players an enjoyable taste of competitions run by the Suffolk Contract Bridge Association. Entry fees (£5 per player) have been deliberately kept low thanks to financial support from the SCBA which is also supplying generous prizes to winners – and some clubs.
To enter, a pair must include a minimum of one player who joined the EBU for the first time when Universal Membership came in – or subsequent to its introduction. Pairs where both players are 'new' members are most welcome. Every SCBA committee member is committed to playing with a 'new' EBU member in this exciting event – and hopes established club players will follow their example and so help to make the day a success.
You can download the poster and the entry form for the event.
Suffolk Married Pairs
Tuesday 12th July 2011, 7:15pm at Stowmarket. A one session pairs event for partners married to each other. The cost is is £4.00 per person, entries and enquiries to Competitions Secretary, (01379 870291).
Suffolk Seniors' Pairs
Wednesday 20th July 2011, 7:15pm at Clare. A one session pairs event for partners both of whom must be aged at least 60 [see note]. There is an embedded event, for Veterans where each player must be at least 70.
The venue is Clare club which meets in the Old School – details from the Suffolk club pages. The cost is is £4.00 per person but Clare members enjoy a discount of a pound. Entries and enquiries to Competitions Secretary, (01379 870291).
Note: some while ago the world and national bridge federations changed the qualification for 'Seniors'. To avoid a sudden jump, they aged the limit a year at a time. Suffolk failed to implement this and we we took the decision to bring ourselves in line with the EBU regulation once the age limit reached 60. That year has come.
Accordingly entry is limited to players born in or before 1951. In the future, this qualification-year will move forward each year.
