Christmas 2011

We know you put these aside to read later and there's no chance of that happening at this time of year. So this is just a short message to wish you all the very best of the season.

Highlights of 2011

As with all things not everything in 2011 went right in Suffolk bridge or anything else but there were several optimistic signs:

Teaching in Clubs

More and more clubs are shifting their balance from simply running a duplicate to a rounded approach, teaching bridge and merging their students into the club. This doesn't work everywhere of course, in some locations it's only an opportunity for larger clubs but we should all take heart that these have a teaching initiative:

  • Clare via Stansfield
  • Colchester
  • Framlingham
  • Ipswich & Kesgrave
  • Risbygate
  • Stowmarket
  • Woodbridge
Felixstowe Entries

October saw the Felixstowe hint at the participation of its early days. Moreover involvement of local players was up too. The Congress Secretaries, Jeff Orton and Chris Rickard, deserve recognition for their efficient management and new ideas (such as Suffolk club discount).

Tollemache Final

For the second time in its 30 year history Suffolk qualified for the National County Teams final – but also the second time in three years. David Price deserves the credit for his belief in the county and his marshalling of the team. Keep an eye on the Eastern Counties League…

New! Eye Bridge Club

Late breaking news: Eye now has a bridge club. They opened their doors on 14-December, details are on our club pages. We're happy to advertise all bridge clubs in Suffolk, large or small, EBU affiliated or not – if you know of a club that would benefit, get in touch – there's a lot of bridge being played in Suffolk.

Remember to check club websites for playing days over the festive period, especially if you're visiting and away from usual haunts – links from the Suffolk front-page.

Bridge in the Cupboard

Little Mo, the two of hearts

Perhaps you think Little Mo should be making Grand Slams but here she is on the defensive.
