Event Names

Event names are usually self-describing but we remember the history of the association and individual contributions in the names of trophies which are usually different. Winners are presented with trophies at the AGM in May.

In some cases the year of a competition is open to interpretation especially where the event spans two calendar years in our May-to-May schedule. In general the numerical year denotes the year the event started but we haven't always been consistent in this, either because of history or because an event 'feels' more at home in one year rather than another.

Thus the Suffolk Pairs, where heats are held in autumn/winter, seems to belong to the following year when the semi-final and final occur. The Suffolk Teams, which has a qualifier in December and is played alongside the Suffolk Plate which is played to a conclusion at that time, belongs to the year of that December. All Leagues (Winter, Summer and ECL) conform to the 'year of start' rule.
